Humans have comforted themselves with sheep wool for centuries. The fibers of wool capture air that acts as a buffer to changes in temperature. That's why clothing made of it -- sweaters, suits, socks, etc. -- keeps us warm in winter and surprisingly cool in summer. And wool breathes. It can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet to the skin, and then evaporate it into the air.
The combination of wool's breathable insulating and moisture dispersion virtues makes our Underquilt the ultimate bedding underlayment. With a Cuddle Ewe™ Underquilt between you and your mattress, you are suspended in insulating layers of air held next to you body within its plush wool. You're now nestled in a bed that quickly matched your body temperature when you entered it, and it remains that way in constant, toasty warmth without overheating.
And, the moisture given off by your body is absorbed by the Underquilt's wool fibers while you're in bed and dispersed to the air when you leave it. Your skin and sheets remain dry and you sleep much better.
Cuddle Ewe™ Underquilt begins as millions of pure, cleaned wool fibers obtained from a breed of sheep found in Britain that grows the worlds most resilient wool. Minimal processing, including washing with a mild soap and water solution and bleaching with hydrogen peroxide, leaves the wool close to it's natural state when first sheared preserving its phenomenal weight carrying buoyancy.
In the photo above, you see it in layered batts nearly ten inches thick before it is sewn within a breathable woven cotton cover and thread tufted to a finished thickness of about three to four inches. The self-binding, intertwined wool fibers eliminate any possibility of voids.
Tufting of the wool ensures it will not shift inside the cotton cover and is done with strong nylon thread without buttons that might otherwise irritate you while lying on your Underquilt.
Cuddle Ewe™ Underquilts are lock stitched with about thirteen stitches per inch. Seams are closely lock stitched (about 13 stitches per inch - that will not unravel). So all the wool inside is there to stay -- uniform, breathable, and ready to give you many years of supreme comfort!
Please note there is a shipping charge for all Cuddle Ewe products. Cuddle Ewe products are shipped directly from the manufacturer and we charge only the shipping rate that they charge us. Please check the shipping box at checkout. Click here to read more testimonials.
Sleep Sounder
A handful of our specially selected and processed wool has a unique, buoyant, resiliency that gently yields to the contours of your entire body so that its weight is supported and diffused more evenly over your mattress. Your weight is much less concentrated at hips, shoulders, and other contact points with your bed and you feel lighter -- almost as if floating. This cradled comfort enables you to drift off to sleep much sooner than you may have experienced and also sleep longer in one position. As a result, you won't toss and turn as much and you will experience a deeper, more restful sleep. And when you awake, you feel physically and mentally regenerated -- your body "feels happy" as one Underquilt owner expressed it.
Easy Use and Care
Using your Underquilt is simple. It is placed directly on your mattress, under your bottom sheet. It won't move around or slide off -- it's own weight and your bottom sheet (either fitted or non-fitted) anchors it in place. Your top sheets and other bed covers are made up in the usual manner. A Cuddle Ewe™ Underquilt is layer upon layer of natural wool batting wrapped in a soft and breathable cotton cover. Made from the finest sleeping wool in the world, Cuddle Ewe™ Underquilts provide the perfect sleep environment.
Caring for it is easy too. We recommend purchasing the slip cover matched to the size of your choice over the Underquilt to help keep it clean. If it does get soiled, it can be sponge cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent and allowed to air dry. You may wish to turn it on the mattress when you change sheets and occasionally hang it outdoors to air out. Loops sewn into the Underquilt's seams can be used for this purpose.
Even if you decide to return the Cuddle Ewe™ Underquilt, the FREE pillow is yours to keep.

Pain Relief
Many Cuddle Ewe™ Underquilt owners tell us that what they appreciate most is the stress and pain relieving effect it has on them -- especially those convalescing with broken bones, or suffering with back problems or other ailments such as fibromyalgia or arthritis. The issue here is often the aggravated pain of body pressure points with sitting or lying surfaces that makes undisturbed rest and sleep difficult. If you are dealing with such problems, easing yourself into the deep supple cushioning of a Cuddle Ewe™ Underquilt can be a real blessing. While our Underquilt is not a cure for any physical impairment, our customers report that it certainly alleviates their symptoms.
Cuddle Ewe™ adjusts to the body’s shape and temperature
Only wool has the dynamic ability to support and distribute body weight away from pressure points and tender points, which relieves pain in joints and soothes aching muscles better than any other material – natural or synthetic. In addition, wool insulates and manages moisture, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Pain is a complex topic that can have many causes and symptoms. Hip and lower back pain may be caused by sacroiliac joint pain that can be caused by an injury or a twisting motion. Morning muscle stiffness commonly afflicts those with arthritis or fibromyalgia. Muscle stiffness in knees may be due to tendinitis, a sprain, or conditions such as arthritis. In each of these cases, quality sleep can be a key element in pain management and pain relief.
Why is Sleep Important?
Sleep impacts body chemistry in many ways and more are being discovered every day. According to the National Sleep Foundation, inadequate sleep has been shown to cause a decreased ability to control fat in proportion to muscle, increased craving for carbohydrates, decreased blood glucose processing, decreased immune system response, increased blood pressure, and increased risk of stroke, among other problems. Sleep deprivation and the body's ability to heal itself are extremely closely related. Several of these problems can contribute to a decreased ability to manage pain and disease and an increased level of stress, which then contributes to poor quality sleep, creating a vicious circle. So how do we break this circle? Two factors that can help are a reduction in overall stress and an increase in quality of sleep.
